Bonjour!
I went to Paris in March 2013. Myself and my (non vegan) Fiance decided to eat at vegetarian resturaunts only, since my experience is that eating at resturaunts in Paris as a vegetarian is difficult, as a vegan well... I didn't want to try! Especially as asking for modifications on menus is not a usual thing to do.
Breakfast: Our hotel had breakfast, and I had bread, jam, fruit, fruit juice and black coffee each day which was very tasty. I should have remembered to bring mini-rice-milks, then I could have had museli.
Lunch: Lunch was not pretty. I had two bags of crisps one day and promptly gave up after that and bought food from M&S on the Champs Elysee. Okay, buying food from home abroad is a tourist no-no, but I wasn't risking paying an arm and a leg at a tourist attraction for two bags of crisps again! I would certainly advise people to bring some snack foods for lunch if you don't want to eat in restaurants twice a day.
Dinner: Okay, dinner we'd thought through:
Le Grenier de Notre-Dame: I'm not sure what to say about the food, I was delighted to find vegan food in Paris and the deserts were great, my Fiance rated the beer as delicious also. The main meals were okay, they seemed to consist mostly of random foods put randomly on the same plate, and some of those foods were tasty and others were bland. My Fiance had a salad which eh enjoyed.
Cons: Meals are mostly a collection of foods on a plate, rather than a whole meal. Some of those components were bland.
Overall rating: 6/10
Saverurs Veget'Halls: This place had tasty food and very friendly staff. I had a pate starter and a Burger and Chips for my main and banana and chocolate cake for desert.
Pros: Tasty food, especially the starter and main which I enjoyed a lot, friendly staff, vegan items marked on menu, central Paris location, wide range of food available (not just "health" food like many of the resturaunts I considered going to... not what you need after a day of trekking around tourist sites!).
Cons: Quite small and very busy, we were lucky to have arrived pretty much when the restaurant opened because it filled up quick. The cake was nice, but not brilliant.
Overall rating: 7.5/10
We also found a south indian vegetarian restaurant we were really excited about... but couldn't find it in the end so gave up. Having already found one restaurant we planned to go to closed, and then traveled across Paris to not be able to find another... we were ready to cut our loses, rest our feet, and buy snacks from the local corner shop. The place was called Krishna bhavan and although we did manage to find the more centrally located one (which shuts on Sunday afternoons - doh!) I can't review it... but it looked great from the menu outside!
Word of caution: I have given my ratings for Paris - taking into account how happy I was to have somewhere with vegan food! Don't expect the same levels of food as you would get in the UK. :)
